My life's work had been a deep commitment to introspection and transformation. I have spent most my adult life developing self awareness, understanding interpersonal patterns, transforming limiting ways of thinking and patterning, healing hurts that got in the way of showing up, and an ongoing practice of abiding in my true nature. I bring a breadth of experience and training to reworking psychological material and helping people feel better. I have had the tremendous good fortune to work with my spiritual teacher Jennifer Welwood for the last 20 years. She is an expert in spiritual inquiry and relationships and has taught relationship work worldwide with her husband and renowned author John Welwood. Her teachings inform my practice and have shaped my work as a therapist. Being a therapist is my life's calling and I feel grateful to be here and to offer this work. It brings me great joy to witness and support clients as they transform and become the confident loving beings they are here to be.
Throughout years of my own practice I have discovered that beneath all the layers of doing, feeling, thinking and sensing there exists an aspect of the self that is a vast resource of grounding and support. This is the authentic part of us, underlying the ego/personality that is the essential self, our true nature. When we consciously connect with our essential self, we see more clearly through our personality structures, the feelings, the thoughts, the habits, the patterns, the stories, the distractions. In so doing, we drop into a vast space of grounding, support, clarity, open-heartedness and capacity. From here we can create the changes we long for.
My specialties are Relationship and Trauma. This work involves attachment healing, reparenting, parts work and in some circumstances emotional support animal. I earned my graduate degree in Integral Counseling Psychology at California Institute of Integral Studies in 1999. I am licensed in California as a Marriage Family Therapist (MFT #41004). I practice Somatically oriented Psychotherapy. My tool bag includes Gestalt Therapy, Family Systems Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Somatic exercises, Mindfulness practices, The Enneagram (a wonderful tool that helps in developing self awareness), Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), an effective treatment for healing trauma and working with PTSD, and Feeling States Therapy a tool helpful to process addictive tendencies and patterning.
I’m a very directive and engaged practitioner. I will guide you into practices that will help you deepen into your experience, get into the here and now and connect with yourself and also challenge limited ways or viewing yourself. I will show you how to turn toward yourself in a loving, constructive way, while also showing you how to disengage from negative repetitive thinking patterns. I will teach you healthy communication in relationship that invites your partner toward you, rather than triggering them to be defensive and pull away. I will help you develop awareness, so that you engage the objectivity necessary to be responsive/non-reactive and choose how you show up. I will help you heal past hurts, so that you can be present in your life. When you can connect with your self in this way, transformation happens.
On a personal note, I am an animal lover and have a passion for fashion, art, fitness and dance. I have what I call a menagerie at home and a dog Bodhi who is always with me in my office.
